The Optical Coating Stack for Diffused Glass

 

Anti-reflective (AR) coating

Standard soda-lime glass reflects approximately 8% of incident radiation at each air-glass interface (Fresnel reflection). Anti-reflective coatings - typically porous silica or multi-layer interference coatings - reduce surface reflectance to below 1%, recovering this energy into the transmission budget. Combined with the diffuse scattering surface, total PAR transmission in high-specification products can exceed 95%, compared to 88–91% for uncoated clear glass.
